What's new

Mosaic updates itself. Each version's changes are here.

Mosaic 2.4.0

Use someone's page or app from your own Mosaic, a whiteboard that is your board, and a meeting's files for everyone in it.

  • Use someone's page or app. In focus on a page or an app someone shares, ask to use it with the button beside its owner's picture. Its owner chooses for how long (2, 5, 10 or 30 minutes), and you work in it with your own mouse and keyboard. One person at a time: its owner sees who is using what and how long is left, and takes it back whenever they like. Asking is part of Mosaic Pro; anyone can say yes.
  • The whiteboard is your board. The meeting room's whiteboard opens like an empty room of your board, with the same pens, sticky notes and lines. Double-click anywhere to write, turn notes and pictures by their handle, and pull a line from a note into empty space to start the next one.
  • Pictures on the board. Drop or paste a picture on the board and it lies there as a print. Turn it by its handle, and make it bigger from its corner: it keeps its shape. Picture is in the + menu, beside the photo frame.
  • Mind maps. Pull a line from a sticky note and let go anywhere: a new note opens there, joined to it, in the same color, ready for writing. Notes joined to notes stay notes; a note joined to a page still sends it its writing as a file.
  • Files after the meeting. In meetings from the website, files on the table up to 25 MB reach everyone by themselves, so they stay after the person who brought them has left. If you leave with a file nobody else has yet, Mosaic tells you who is missing it: Wait for them sends it, and you leave once it's there. When the meeting ends, save everything at once, in one zip.
  • The meeting table. Under each file, the name of whoever put it there. Links show their site's letter and color and a name you can read, and they lie in rows, the table making room for a second one.
  • A film that has ended says so in the cinema, with Play it again.
  • A page whose owner is in a room says where they are, and that you're seeing its last picture.
  • The meeting room's wooden wall stays behind the floor at any window size, and its buttons look as they do on the website.

Mosaic 2.3.1

A whiteboard in the meeting room, a table you set yourself, and an efficiency mode.

  • A whiteboard on the meeting room's screen. Turn the screen round and its back is a whiteboard, for everyone in the room, in the app and in meetings from the website. Double-click it to work on it full screen: pens, sticky notes, text, shapes, lines from one thing to another for a mind map, pictures. Everyone draws at once. It looks like your board, by day and by night.
  • The table, as you set it. Files on the meeting room's table stay where they're put. Anyone moves them, and the others see them go.
  • Efficiency mode. In Settings › General: pages and apps you aren't working in show only their icon, and nothing of them is drawn or sent to you until you open one. Your own pages close after two minutes asleep and load again when you open them. For an older computer, or a board with many pages.
  • Pasting. A paste brings what you copied: a picture as a picture, text as text, even when the app put data of its own beside it. That data, when there's a good deal of it, is a click away. A frame copied in Figma comes as Figma's data, named after Figma.
  • Your host link. When you make a meeting on the website, your host link is right there to copy or to email to yourself. mosaicanvas.com/meet lists the meetings you host in that browser, and the People panel gives the link again.
  • Going in and out of rooms no longer leaves someone unheard or unseen.
  • On Windows, a file dragged from a panel to the app you're working in lands in the app.

Mosaic 2.3.0

Mosaic Server, camera effects in the app, and the website's meeting room.

  • Mosaic Server. Keep your team's boards on your own server, NAS or a spare Mac: always on, every file put on them kept, each board backed up every day. Install it with one line, or turn a computer into one in Settings › Server. Members connect with its address and password, see its boards on Home and make new ones there, or at the server's own window. About Mosaic Server.
  • Camera effects in the app. Blur your background, put a meeting room or a picture behind you, or pick a look, wherever your camera is on. All of it made on your computer.
  • The meeting room, redrawn. The app's meeting room is now the website's: the screen on the wall, the round table, the faces along the walls while someone presents, and the table's files at a size you can read. The table keeps its size when someone presents. Paste and Add files under it, and drag a file off it onto your desktop.
  • Plans. Mosaic comes as Mosaic Free and Mosaic Pro ($49, one payment). What each includes is on the pricing page.
  • A board you share now reaches the others with its name.

Mosaic 2.2.3

Meetings from the website, a wall calendar, and new versions of a file by dropping it on its card.

  • Meetings from the website. Start a meeting at mosaicanvas.com/meet, without the app: a meeting room in the browser for up to 8 people, with voice, cameras, a shared screen and a table for files. Give it a title and pick the room: walnut, oak, studio or night. Plan it for later and put it in Google Calendar or Outlook, download a calendar file, or email the link. Whoever comes first opens the room; the others knock, and someone inside lets them in. A time limit, if you set one, ends the meeting for everyone. For bigger meetings, there's Mosaic.
  • A wall calendar. A new gadget with a week, a month, a year and a timeline. Connect task lists to it: tasks with a day show up on the calendar, and the calendar's events show up in the task lists under From the calendar. Tick them off on either side. Drag an event to another day, or pull the ends of a bar on the timeline.
  • New versions on the card. In Outgoing, drop a file on a card to replace it: its name, its place and its connections stay. A card dragged into another app comes from a place that follows its new versions, on everyone's computer.
  • Collaborative folders on your computer. Add to This Computer makes the folder under Mosaic in your home folder and keeps it in step; Put on the Desktop adds a shortcut to it.
  • Members in the browser. Someone who opens a member link in a browser works on the board there: its tools, the gadgets, connections, rooms and files of their own. They can share their screen and present in a meeting room too.
  • Any app's clipboard. Paste what you copied in an app into Outgoing, whatever kind of data it is: it becomes one card, and copying the card gives the same data back to that app.
  • Through a door. Drag things onto a door to put them in its room; hold them there a moment and the door opens and carries them in. Their connections and groups go along.
  • A recorder for everyone. Switch the memo recorder to All to record everyone in the room in one recording. Everyone there sees that it's recording.
  • Sticky notes. A sticky note connected to something passes its writing on as a text file, kept up to date. Post-it is now called Sticky note.
  • Timer and stopwatch. A switch between the two, and the time it ends (or started) on its face.
  • Changes that wait for you, more reliably. What changes on a board while you're away now always reaches you: each change is sent until the relays confirm it, Mosaic waits for the last ones when you quit, and a copy of the whole board fills any gap.
  • A teleport pad says what the other pad brings.

Mosaic 2.2.2

Collaborative folders, a board that keeps your changes for whoever comes next, and a way through strict networks.

  • Collaborative folders. Make a folder of yours collaborative with the people button on its bar: partners and members on the board add files straight into it, on your computer. They can't delete, change or write over anything of yours. What the nodes connected to it share comes in by itself, even when you don't open it. A file done again by the same person, under the same name, takes its old one's place, so an app using it (an edit in Premiere, say) gets the new render. The others can Keep a Copy of it in a folder of their own, kept in step like a shared drive: new and changed files come in, files taken out go to their Trash. A collaborative folder has two people pressed into its front, as on a Mac.
  • Changes wait for whoever comes next. Write in the chat, leave sticky notes, move things, add gadgets, make groups, rename the board or a room while nobody else is on: whoever opens the board later finds it all, even when you've gone. Changes are left sealed with the board's own key on the same public relays Mosaic meets on, for 30 days; files never are. More in the privacy policy.
  • Through strict networks. Where a network allows no direct road between two people (some mobile networks, office firewalls), Mosaic connects through an encrypted relay as a last resort, which passes things on without reading them. And when there's still no way, Mosaic says so, with Try again and the connection check, instead of an empty board that looks like nobody's there.
  • Guests on phones. An invite link opened on a phone fits it: move and zoom the board with your fingers, double-tap to open, swipe between files. Meeting rooms and the cinema fit a phone held either way, and a film goes full screen on an iPhone too.
  • Sticky notes. Double-click a sticky note of yours to write in it again.
  • Make the table yours. The welcome tour ends with choosing your board's background, and so does Getting started. “Change the background” is in the command bar too.

Mosaic 2.2.1

Films in their original quality, meetings in your calendar, and links that bring you straight in.

  • Films in their original quality. Put a film on in the cinema and every Mosaic in the room gets the file itself, whole, checked byte for byte against yours, and plays it from its own computer at the same moment as yours. Until it's there, it plays live; then the original takes over without a pause. The corner of the screen says how it's coming, and you see who has it. When the film comes off the screen, the copies go. Guests in a browser watch it live.
  • Meetings in your calendar. In the share dialog, Schedule puts a meeting with the board's link (or a room's) into Google Calendar, Outlook or your calendar app: a time, how long, how often, and the people to invite; your calendar sends the invitations. Or copy the invitation as text.
  • Links that bring you in. Opening an invite link starts Mosaic if it isn't running, brings its window back if it was closed, and puts it in front on the board, every time.
  • Links on the table. Paste a link on a desk or on the meeting room's table: it lies there named after its page, and opens in your browser with a double-click. Desks have a paste button; the meeting room has Paste beside Sprint, and ⌘V puts things on the table.
  • Up to date from the start. Mosaic looks for a new version as it opens. If there is one, it comes in right away and Mosaic restarts into it; offline, Mosaic opens as usual and looks again later.
  • A new icon, easier to read when it's small, and a new wallpaper: Canyon.
  • A desk passes on everything on it. A page or an app connected to a desk gets all that lies on it in its Incoming: what was put on the desk, and what the other nodes connected to it share. So do a photo frame, a record player and a folder window connected to it.
  • A desk object dragged off the shelf no longer leaves the bar at the bottom a bin.

Mosaic 2.2.0

Your desktop apps on the board, rooms that keep their things, and a say over who's on your board.

  • Desktop apps on the board. Put any app that's open on your computer on the board from the + menu: the apps open now are there, and Application lists every window, on this desktop or another, minimized or hidden. Its window shows live for everyone, in its own shape. Double-click it to work in the real app right there, with no delay; the Incoming and Outgoing panels slide out over it at the edges, and ⌘Esc (Alt+Esc on Windows) brings you back to the board. On a Mac and on Windows; a Mac asks for Accessibility once.
  • Focus opens like a door. A page or an app grows into the view in one motion, and goes back to its place the same way.
  • Links that keep people in a room. Share from inside a room and tick “Keep them in …”: whoever comes by that link stays in that room, without the board's chat. Let them onto the whole board whenever you like.
  • Taking someone off a board. Its owner can remove someone from the People list (it asks twice): what they put on the board goes, their Mosaic leaves the board and deletes its copy, and their link no longer lets them in by itself.
  • Rooms keep their things. Deleting a room with things inside asks first: keep them on the board, grouped with the room's name, or delete everything. A room that becomes a meeting room, a cinema or another made room starts empty, and asks first too.
  • Voice, plainer. Everyone hears whoever talks; the button is your own microphone.
  • Cinema. Whoever put the film on plays it; everyone else gets it live from them, picture and sound.
  • Meeting room. The screen takes the room while someone presents, and goes full screen with a double-click. Fifteen people fit around the table. Picking the screen to present works with the first click.
  • A bin. Drag a desk object onto the bar at the bottom to take it away; ⌘Z brings it back.
  • Zoom a web page with ⌘+ ⌘− ⌘0 or by pinching, instead of the board.
  • Can't connect to someone? The connection check shows whether your network lets Mosaic through.
  • The focus room's clock sits in the page's header in focus. The minimap's view is green. Doors open with a softer sound. An empty room no longer says nobody's on the board. Pictures of app windows come back after the computer sleeps.

Mosaic 2.1.0

Rooms: doors on your board that open into rooms of their own.

  • Doors and rooms. Put a door on the board, and behind it is a room. Whoever goes in stays on the board and in its chat, but talks and sees cameras only with the others in that room. Lock the door from inside; anyone knocking can be let in. Pick the door's style and paint, name it, and choose what kind of room it is.
  • Links that open in a room. Share from inside a room, and whoever opens the link starts right there, in Mosaic or in a browser: bring a client straight into the meeting room, or into the cinema to watch your finished render.
  • Meeting room. A screen on the wall to present on, in turns; everyone's camera around a table that takes files for all; a sprint timer.
  • Phone booth. Two people, face to face.
  • Cinema. A big screen in a dark hall, its light on the walls and the floor. Put on a film from your computer: everyone watches it at the same moment, in its own quality, played from your file; guests in a browser watch it live. Whoever put it on plays and pauses it; the others just watch. Full screen with a double-click.
  • Library. Shelves of PDFs, EPUBs, Word and text files, and a reader made for reading.
  • Archive. The board's records: every file put in comes to everyone's computer, so it opens even when whoever put it there has left. Files up to 100 MB stay until you clean them up; bigger ones go when unused, and come back when opened.
  • Focus room. Quiet: no voice, notices wait until you're out, and a focus clock everyone in it shares.
  • Workshop. A cork wall for sticky notes, a pad to peel them off, dot votes and a kitchen timer.
  • Guest room. A room guests in a browser can always go into, with a welcome sign of your own.
  • Rooms to arrange have a floor of their own (patterns, colors or your own picture) and three sizes.
  • Esc steps out one level at a time: focus, room, board, Home, full screen.
  • Record player. One record for everyone: anyone pauses it, anyone plays it on, from where it stopped.
  • Handles and pins stay easy to grab when you're zoomed far out.
  • Files. Sounds show their length and seek anywhere; a folder you choose shows at once for everyone; files in your own shared folder are never touched when others open them.
  • After dropping files on a desk or into a folder window, pages are shielded again as they should be. On a picture background, lines are white. Spatial audio turns to one side gradually.

Mosaic 2.0.1

Fixes and improvements after the first team tests.

  • Finding each other again. Leaving a board and coming back (even by accident, with ⌘W), people find each other in about a second, without anyone going Home and back or restarting Mosaic. Mosaic now also keeps its connection relays alive and sets aside the ones that stop answering.
  • Folders. Drag files out of a folder window again, onto the desktop or into a page. Draw a box to pick several files, ⌘C to copy them as files and paste them anywhere, ⌘V to paste files from the Finder or Explorer into your folder. Drop a folder from the Finder or Explorer onto the board to share it.
  • Quick Look. Pictures always fit the window whole, tall ones too, and zoom: pinch, ⌘+ ⌘− ⌘0, a double-click for actual size, and drag to look around.
  • Cameras. The camera panel comes in three sizes and has a speaker view: whoever talks is on the big stage, the others below (double-click someone to keep them there). Cameras are sharper.
  • Notices. A small notice and a short sound when someone joins or leaves, joins the voice, turns on their camera, writes in the chat, knocks or asks you to look. Turn the sounds off in Settings › General.
  • Spatial audio, plainer. Voices from far away are quieter and muffled, and come from their side of the board.
  • Teleports come in eight colors, and each new pair takes one the board doesn't use yet.
  • Less to download. Pictures of other people's pages come only for the ones in or near your view, and arrive as you move toward them.
  • "Continue with Google" on Pinterest (and other sites using Google's sign-in button) moves the page to Chrome, where it works.
  • Address bar. A node's address is selected as the field opens, so you can type right away; on Windows, a typed address replaces the old one instead of adding to it.
  • Small objects like folders and teleports no longer stick to the pointer after a quick drag.

Mosaic 2.0.0

The first release of the new Mosaic: your team's apps, files and people on one table.

  • Live web apps on a board. Any web app becomes a node; Google Docs, Sheets and Slides open as Chrome nodes through the Mosaic Bridge extension.
  • Share a board, peer to peer. Invite people with a link. Everything travels directly between your computers: no servers, no accounts. Roles for owners, partners, members and observers.
  • Watch from a browser. Anyone with the link can watch a board here without installing anything: see it live, talk, turn on their camera, and look at or download the files in its folders.
  • Meet on the board. Voice with spatial audio, a camera panel, chat, "Look here" and following someone's view.
  • Files and folders. Drop files on nodes, share a folder or a desk; others' files come to you only when you use them.
  • Desk gadgets. Sticky notes, timer, record player, photo frame, calculator, task list and more, plus templates and a welcome tour.
  • AI agents with your own API key.
  • Updates itself. Mosaic finds, downloads and installs new versions on its own.
